Highliner Room 11 Seating Area

108 Main Street stands as a testament to Gloucester’s resilience and creativity. After the devastating Great Fire of Gloucester in 1864, which destroyed over 100 buildings in the heart of the city, the property was rebuilt in 1865 using brick to ensure greater fire resistance. This commitment to durability and renewal set the stage for the building’s enduring legacy.

Over the decades, the property served various roles, including a dental office, therapy practice, and dance studio. In the 1970s, it became a hub for local artists, hosting themed exhibits and showcasing the renowned Folly Cove Designers, including their historic printing press. The 1980s and 1990s saw the space evolve into a porcelain jewelry studio, an art space, and a women’s boutique, while the 2010s welcomed a textile and art studio that continues to thrive just down the road.

A cornerstone of Gloucester’s creative community, 108 Main Street reflects the city’s enduring spirit, artistic heritage, and determination to rise from the ashes of its history.

In 2023, the building was purchased with a vision to transform it into a boutique hotel, honoring both the rich history of Gloucester and the building’s artistic legacy. With careful attention to preserving its unique character, the new chapter for The Highliner, at 108 Main Street, aims to blend modern luxury with the spirit of the community, ensuring its story continues to inspire for generations to come.
